Is It Permissible To Cooperate With The LGBT Community Regarding Our Shared Objectives? by Shaykh Dr. ʿArafāt ibn Ḥasan al-Muḥammadī

Pivotal Quote

“This is not permissible to cooperate with such organizations. The homosexuals are practicing something which is a filthy and despicable thing.  It’s a sin of the people of Lūṭ (عليه السلام).  When people dress up that sin and call it by other than its name, by coming up with these nice politically correct words to cover up the ugly sin.  Don’t call it by other than its name, don’t try to be politically correct.

The sin practiced by those people are from the major sins.”

Question:

It is permissible to cooperate with certain groups or organizations that work for the rights of LGBT in protests, if they share the common goals or objectives, even if we disagree with what they stand for in our religion?

Answer:

This is not permissible to cooperate with such organizations.

The sin practiced by those people are from the major sins. Some people would say it’s personal freedom, I’ll do what I want to do. What are you going to say about a married woman who goes and sleeps with a married man who’s not her husband and he says, “I’m free!” and she says, “I’m free and I want to!”? So, because they want to, is not a sin because they both agreed to it? This is ḥarām! This is a major sin in the religion of Allāh.

So, just because they both agreed it’s okay? A man can sleep with another man’s wife and there’s nothing wrong with it because they both agreed to it? This is ḥarām!

Allāh has placed within human beings’ nature, sexual desires and He has given them a permissible outlet for that. People can’t go satisfy that desire any old way they want, they must rather satisfy the way in according to how Allāh has made permissible and that’s through marriage. Your Lord created you, He is your Master, He told you what to do, so obey Him and if you don’t, you deserve to be punished.

A man comes and says, “I’m attracted to men, I like men, I don’t like women but I like men!”  This desire he is expressing is a satanic desire and is evil. Why do you think that the paradise has been surrounded by hardships and the hellfire has been surrounded by desires? There are some things that people are naturally tempted with and they naturally like, but Allāh tested us and told us not to do it because they are a path to the hellfire.

All of the scholars mutually agree that homosexuality is a major sin. There’s no difference of opinion. When Lūṭ (عليه السلام) called his people saying,

“And (remember) Lot (Lūṭ), when he said to his people: “Do you commit the worst sin such as none preceding you has committed in the ‘Alamīn (mankind and jinns)? (Sūrah Al-A’raf 7:80)

“Do you approach men in your lusts rather than women? Nay, but you are a people who behave senselessly.”  (Sūrah An-Naml 27:55)

How is it possible for a man to lay down with another man? Even animals don’t do this. Lūṭ (عليه السلام)  said to his people, “are you approaching men for your desires?”

Narrated by Jābir رضي الله عنه : “The Prophet ﷺ said: ‘There is nothing I fear for my Ummah more than the deed of the people of Lūṭ.’” (Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 1457; Ibn Mājah, 2563.)

In another ḥadīth Allāh curses the one who practices homosexuality. It was narrated that Ibn ‘Abbās said: “The Prophet ﷺ said, “Cursed is the one who has intercourse with an animal, cursed is the one who does the action of the people of Lūṭ.” (Narrated by Aḥmad, 1878.)

How you going to come about and say we are going to cooperate with them and protest with them because we agree with some of the things they say?  If somebody comes and says it’s permissible to be a homosexual then they are a kafir, if someone says there is nothing immoral in practicing homosexuality, then they have removed themselves from the fold of Islām because they are calling Allāh a liar in His Book.

Allāh called this sin fāḥishah, a despicable abomination. People who practice this sin should be awaiting their punishment from Allāh, a severe punishment. Allāh destroyed the people of Lūṭ, Allāh sent the angel Jibrīl to them and turned their village upside down on them. He raised their village up to the sky and then turned it upside down on them and then rained down rocks upon them.

“And We rained down on them a rain (of stones). So evil was the rain of those who were warned” (Sūrah An-Naml 27:58)

This should serve as a warning for those who might be tempted to practice this sin, that Allāh destroyed an entire nation for practicing this sin.  They did it and they were punished. If you do it, you should fear that you would be punished.

We say to the people who are spreading these doubts that Allāh has completed for you and perfected for you your religion. There is no need to come up with anything new. The religion of Islām is here and it is present and it is complete and the answers are right in front of you.

This day, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My Favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islām as your religion.  (Sūrah Al-Ma’idah 5:3)

Imām Mālik (رحمه الله‎‎) said, “Anyone who introduces something into this ummah which was not attributed to the salaf then he has wrongfully claimed that Muḥammad ﷺ has betrayed the message.”

Allāh has made happiness directly connected to obedience to His Messenger, so when people start disobeying the Messenger, they should not expect to live a happy life and they should not expect happiness in their afterlife, but they can expect to be miserable.

“And whosoever disobeys Allāh and His Messenger, then verily, for him is the Fire of Hell, he shall dwell therein forever”.  (Sūrah Al-Jinn 72:23)

The Prophet ﷺ left us upon a clear path, its night is like its day and no one strays from it expect that he is destroyed.

It was narrated from ‘Abdur-Rahman bin ‘Amr As-Sulami that he heard Al-‘Irbad bin Sariyah say, “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ delivered a moving speech to us which made our eyes flow with tears and made our hearts melt. We said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, this is a speech of farewell. What did you enjoin it upon us?’ He said: ‘I am leaving you upon a (path of) brightness whose night is like its day. No one will deviate from it after I am gone but one who is doomed. Whoever among you lives will see great conflict. I urge you to adhere to what you know of my Sunnah and the path of the Rightly-Guided Caliphs, and cling stubbornly to it. And you must obey, even if (your leader is) an Abyssinian leader. For the true believer is like a camel with a ring in its nose; wherever it is driven, it complies.’” ( Sunan Ibn Majah Grade-Sahih)

And he has explained to us the minute details of everything, there is nothing expect that the birds flapping their wings in the sky, expect that the Messenger ﷺ mentioned to us the wisdom regarding that.

Abū Dardā’ (رضي الله عنه) said, “There is nothing that brings you closer to paradise or distances you from the hellfire expect that your Prophet has mentioned about it, not even a bird flapping his wings in the sky, expect that he has mentioned a wisdom concerning that.”

The Prophet’s ﷺ message was clear, so happiness is with following his religion, he left us upon this path that its night is visible, anyone who strays from it is destroyed.

This is naṣīḥa for the ones who are spreading doubts, they should return to knowledge of the dīn and they should turn back to the scholars of the dīn and stop spreading falsehood.

“And whoever contradicts and opposes the Messenger (Muḥammad ﷺ) after the right path has been shown clearly to him, and follows other than the believers’ way, we shall keep him in the path he has chosen, and burn him in Hell – what an evil destination.” (Sūrah An-Nisā’ 4:115)

So, people who are spreading these doubts have no clear thing of what kind of misguidance  they are in, and so they should stop in their tracks and start seeking knowledge and sitting with the people of knowledge.
