Question:
Our Shaykh, may Allāh bless you, we have erected a tent in our house as a muṣallá to pray Tarāwīḥ and the walls of this tent are cloth, so does this cloth suffice as a sutrah?
Answer:
Anything in front of a person, which prevents someone else from passing in front of him is a sutrah. Also, the imām’s sutrah is sufficient for those who are praying with him. So those who are praying with him do not need individual sutrahs. Rather, the imām’s sutrah is sufficient and whatever is in front of the individual, whether it be cloth or a stick or a wall, it is considered a sutrah.
