Question:
In our country many people have begun to go crazy shopping and buying things even though there is no scarcity of food on the shelves and some Muslims have begun to do the same thing, so what advice do you have towards this practice that is going on?
Answer:
Taking the necessary steps, which is known as Badhl al-Asbāb, is something that is required of us in Islām. And so yes, you go and buy enough food and things for your family and have them available in the house so that you do not have to keep going out to the marketplace all the time. You buy enough things to stay at home so you can minimise the number of times you have to go out and minimise your contact at the marketplace.
However, going to an extreme and buying things that you do not need, just stockpiling canned foods and the likes, this is part of not having Tawakkul on Allāh. And so, you should take a medium course. Buy what you need, do not go to extremes and put your trust in Allāh.
